Maximize accuracy with the Calex PyroCube

The PyroCube is a non-contact infrared temperature sensor with built-in LED sighting. It has an extremely fast response time, and can precisely measure the temperature of a very small area.

The continuous LED sighting illuminates the position and size of the measurement spot while readings are being taken, without affecting the accuracy of the measurement. The sensor works by detecting the infrared radiation emitted from a surface as a result of its own temperature. The amount of radiation emitted is related to the temperature, and the sensor uses this relationship to provide an accurate temperature measurement.

The Pyrocube S is a General purpose sensor. Suitable for measuring non-metals such as paper, thick plastics, food, rubber, electronic components, cable insulation, ceramics, textiles, painted surfaces among many others.

The PyroCube F is beneficial for those applications where the fastest response time (1 millisecond) is needed.

Features

  • High speed response time - as fast as 1 ms
  • Measured spot as small as 1.6 mm
  • Temperature ranges from 0°C to 500°C
  • Continuous LED sighting shows the position and size of the measured spot while readings are being taken
  • Multilingual touch screen interface (optional)
  • Not designed or approved for fever detection

Target size and distance are critical to accuracy for most IR thermometers

The given measured spot size contains 90% of the energy detected by the sensor. We normally recommend the target is at least twice as large as the given measured spot for maximum accuracy. Accuracy specifications are valid up to the maximum distances shown.

Touch Screen Interface

Optional wall-mounted display, data logging, configuration and alarm unit for FibreCube sensor

  • Read the temperature
The large, bright backlit temperature display is visible from a distance and turns red in an alarm condition.
  • Record the temperature history
See a graph of the measured temperature, and log more than a year of data to a single MicroSD Card. The data is stored in a simple text format that can be imported easily into Excel.
  • Configure the sensor
All the sensor’s configuration settings can be adjusted via the intuitive touch screen interface.
  • Trigger temperature alarms
Two alarms are individually configurable as high, low, band or error. The screen turns bright red to signal an alarm condition, and the built-in 24 V, 1 A relay outputs can be connected directly to alarm sounders and beacons.
  • Accurate measurements, even with reflections of hot objects
Place the sensor outside an oven or furnace and accurately measure the temperature of objects inside by using the Reflected Energy Compensation feature.

Typical Applications

Cable Manufacturing

It is now possible to monitor the temperature of insulation and sheathing as they are applied to very narrow cables, avoiding manufacturing defects and ensuring highly repeatable product quality.

Plastics

Extrusion of plastic tubing and profiles requires temperature control to ensure consistent quality. The tube or profile can be narrow, so the very small measured spot of the PyroCube is ideal. If the die is changed, the aiming angle of the sensor must often be adjusted, and the continuous LED sighting makes this easy.

Electronics: PCB Testing

When testing the function of circuit boards, small components can heat up very quickly. The PyroCube can monitor the temperature of very small components and read their surface temperature instantaneously.

Food

The PyroCube's advanced peak hold functionality is ideal for fast-moving conveyors, especially in food production. With the PyroCube, it is now possible to measure the temperature of thousands of individual items every minute.
