Always-on monitoring for security & safety

Monnit’s Wireless Tilt Detection Sensor tracks the position (pitch) of access barriers, heavy equipment arms, and crucial machinery. With a measurement range of 0–180° and accuracy of 0.5°, this sensor instantly reports (in degrees) when movement exceeds preset limits. If an arm is breached, the tilt detect sensor sends an alert via text, email, or call.

The sensor can also identify if an arm is raising/lowering slowly, indicating seizing hydraulics or motors. This capability helps prevent loss or injury in commercial real estate, agriculture, oil exploration, and other sectors.

The Tilt Detection Sensor is a digital, low-power, low-profile, MEMS based sensor that detects changes in tilt on a single axis and reports data in the form of pitch, based on user configurable orientation changes. The sensor also reports rise/fall time and the current sensor orientation/trigger state.

Simplicity for Safety’s Sake

The Tilt Detection Sensor constantly monitors a single axis of rotation over a range of -179.9° to +180.0°. The data is displayed in degrees with 0.1° of resolution. If the sensor does not experience a detectable orientation change, the sensor will report the most recent measured data at a specified user specified time interval. If a user specified orientation change is detected, the sensor will report immediately.

The sensor has two main modes of operation which determine what triggers the sensor to report. In Up/Down mode user configurable angles are used to define regions for “Up”, “Down”, and “Stuck”. Data is reported when the sensor moves between these regions. In Delta mode the sensor triggers when the absolute difference between the current sensor angle and the last reported angle exceeds a user defined Delta Value. The axis or rotation is user selectable. The axis image below indicates the axis of rotation and the arrow indicates the direction of increasing pitch angle (0° to 180° ▶ -180° to -0°).

Example Data: Pitch: 18.21°, Rise/Fall Time:0 ms, Data State: down

Monnit Gateway Options

An integral component of any IoT network is the gateway. A gateway device allows for data from sensors to be transmitted to the iMonnit software platform.

Monnit Ethernet Wireless Gateway 4

Monnit’s Ethernet Gateways allow your Monnit Wireless Sensors to communicate with the iMonnit™ Online Wireless Sensor Monitoring and Notification System without the need for a PC. Simply provide power and plug the gateway into an open Ethernet network port with an internet connection. It will then automatically connect with our online servers, providing the perfect solution for commercial locations where there is an active internet connection.

Monnit 4G + Ethernet IoT Gateway

The ALTA® by Monnit Wireless IoT Gateway combines a 4G LTE CAT-M1/NB2 cellular engine and Ethernet platform with Monnit’s wireless access point network to aggregate and communicate data from Monnit ALTA Wireless Sensors. The ALTA IoT Gateway allows ALTA Sensors to operate on the world’s leading cellular networks and stay connected to the Internet. The gateway uses AC main power but also has redundant power through a battery backup lasting up to 60 hours.

To meet the global demand for enterprise IoT deployment, the IoT Gateway communicates with the cloud-based iMonnit® monitoring software via cellular transmission, making it ideal for remote locations or where the Internet isn’t available. The RJ-45 Ethernet jack allows local device configuration, diagnostics, and connectivity backup. The IoT Gateway is instrumental in sending sensor notifications via text, email, or call if user-defined conditions are met or exceeded.
